Recently, our Westwood Middle School Site Coordinator, Sheri Frantilla, offered a large community resource fair for one of our partner elementary schools. Sheri was delighted to see a student whom she had mentored 5 years ago. The former student shared that she was confused about her next step after graduation. Sheri reminded her that she had registered for a College Bound Scholarship in 8th grade. The former student was thrilled to learn that she could use the scholarship to apply for a technical program at the local community college. Sheri and her former student are meeting this week to get the college application completed. This inspiring situation is part of doing “whatever it takes” to help students succeed in school and prepare for life. By the way, 100% of 300 eligible students at Westwood Middle School registered for the College Bound scholarship in the 2012-13 school year thanks to Sheri’s diligence and persistence. The College Bound scholarship typically provides up to $50,000 in scholarship aid to students who graduate from high school, have no major legal issues, and are still income eligible. That’s millions invested in bright futures!
